Public Works
The Public Works Department is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and some construction of public facilities owned by the City. This includes city streets, government buildings and grounds, city parks, storm water systems, sanitary sewer systems, public water systems, and equipment maintenance.
Street Maintenance
Street maintenance activities on the City's 130 miles of roads includes pothole patching, crack sealing, chip sealing, roadside mowing, and tree trimming in the right-of-way. The department also grades 16 miles of gravel roads, sweeps city streets annually, and maintains street signs throughout the city.
Park Maintenance
Park maintenance activities on the City's 21 parks and numerous other public grounds include grass mowing, turf and landscaping maintenance, trash removal, playground installation and maintenance, trail maintenance, cemetery maintenance and burials, and athletic field maintenance.
Snow & Ice Control
The Public Works Department is responsible for the snow removal on all of the City's 130 miles of streets, 167 cul-de sacs, and public parking lots with the goal of providing safe and efficient travel throughout the City.
